A community resource for visiting researchers
GuestResearcher.com exists to make a research move feel less like starting from zero — and more like joining a community that's expecting you.
Inspired by what came before
For years, informal community resources helped visiting researchers find housing, sell their furniture before leaving, and meet other people in the same situation. Those resources were genuinely useful — and they showed how much a niche, trusted community can do for people arriving on short timelines.
GuestResearcher.com is built for today’s visiting researchers, scholars, fellows, interns, trainees, and research-community members, with modern tools for housing, classifieds, events, and practical guides. We did not import or republish anyone’s old personal listings — this is a fresh start.
What we bring together
- Housing — rooms, sublets, and short-term stays near campuses.
- Marketplace — furniture, bikes, cars, and moving sales.
- Events — happy hours and meetups to find your people.
- Guides — practical help for arriving, settling, and moving on.
Community-first posting
Community posting is the focus here. Verified community members may publish eligible low-risk posts faster; commercial, spammy, or high-risk posts may be limited or reviewed. Some posts are reviewed before appearing publicly. Verify an eligible institutional or research-community email (.gov / .mil / .edu / approved) to add a stronger community signal.
Independent and trusted
We verify community members automatically through institutional email domains (.gov, .mil, .edu, and an admin-managed allowlist of research organizations), keep contact details private by default, review housing and commercial listings before they publish, and surface scam and Fair Housing warnings where they matter.
