Getting around
- The NIH Clinical Center's own visitor directions say to take Metro's Red Line to Medical Center station, where the escalators come out onto the campus, with CAMPUS and CAMPUS LIMITED shuttles running from there. IMPORTANT AS OF JULY 2026: the same page states that from 6 July to 6 September 2026 trains do not run between North Bethesda and Friendship Heights — which includes Medical Center — and that free WMATA shuttle buses replace trains at Grosvenor-Strathmore, Medical Center and Bethesda. If you are arriving inside that window, plan around buses rather than trains, and check WMATA for the current position before you sign anything. Once normal service resumes, the upper Red Line — Bethesda, Grosvenor-Strathmore, North Bethesda, Twinbrook, Rockville — is the natural place to look, with Friendship Heights and Silver Spring an easy ride.
